Bill Cowher: If Giants Drop Last Two Games, Will Pressure Mount to Hire Cowher?

Bill Cowher is going to be the hottest coaching commodity in the 2010-11 offseason.

The former Steelers head man resigned after 15 seasons with Pittsburgh after he captured that ever-elusive Super Bowl title against the Seattle Seahawks in February 2006.

We all knew the resignation wasn't a final retirement.

He steered clear of several coaching positions that could have been his since then, but next year, it sounds like he's going to be manning some team's sideline.

Cowher reportedly has a "wish list" of clubs he'd like to coach: Dolphins, Texans and Giants.

With the unrelenting New York City media and the Giants' epic collapse last week against the rival Eagles, rumors are starting to swirl that current head coach Tom Coughlin could be inching toward the unenviable hot seat.

It may seem a little ridiculous that a coach who won a Super Bowl three years ago and is leading a 9-5 team in playoff contention could be potentially fired at the end of the year, but Coughlin's past, the possibility of Cowher, and NYC's demand for consistent greatness make this something that could undoubtedly happen.

After their gigantic Super Bowl triumph in 2007, Coughlin's club looked primed for a repeat in 2008, but were upset at home by those pesky Eagles, 23-11.

Major bummer.

Last season, with the usual high expectations surrounding the Giants, they failed to make the postseason after a 5-0 start, when they lost three of their final four games to finish the year at 8-8.

New York was outscored 85-16 in Week's 16 and 17.

Now this season, after yet another colossal catastrophe, the Giants are far from a lock for the postseason. They play at Green Bay and in Washington to end the year.

If Big Blue misses out on the playoffs for a second straight season in humiliating fashion, Tom Coughlin's job security will come into question, especially with Bill Cowher and his impressive resume waiting in the wings.

The pressure is most definitely on.
